Coach House Café

Coach House Café occupies a restored service building in the grounds of Penlee House Gallery & Museum, within Penlee Park on Morrab Road. The setting gives the café more local character than a standard town-centre stop: Penlee House was built in 1864–65, its coach house originally served the estate, and the house and gardens were bought by public subscription as a Penzance war memorial in 1946 before the museum opened in 1949. Today the café works equally well as part of a gallery visit, a break during a park walk or a destination in its own right.

The food offer runs from breakfast through lunch, with Sunday roasts and a separate drinks menu. Breakfast includes cooked plates, filled baps, poached eggs and a vegan granola, while the lunch menu covers made-to-order sandwiches and toasties, soup, salads, cakes and Cornish cream teas. Local touches include Newlyn crab, local ham, Cornish smoked bacon and Cornish clotted cream, and the published menu marks vegan choices while noting that gluten-free bread and cakes are available.

Timing matters if you are planning the café around the museum: breakfast is served until 11.30am, lunch runs from noon to 3pm, and Sunday breakfast begins later than on Monday to Saturday. Daily soups, specials, cakes and puddings are shown on the café blackboards, so the website menu is best treated as a guide rather than a promise of every item. Anyone with an allergy should tell staff before ordering, and it is sensible to check current opening arrangements when a major Penlee exhibition or park event is likely to draw extra visitors.
