Marazion Beach is a broad Mount's Bay stretch just east of Penzance, popular for family beach days, paddling and the classic view across to St Michael's Mount.
Marazion Beach stretches along Mount’s Bay just east of Penzance, with broad sand and an uninterrupted view towards St Michael’s Mount. Its setting makes it useful for more than a quick photograph: Visit Cornwall highlights sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and jet skiing as well as ordinary paddling and beach time. Rock pools around Chapel Rock and Marazion Harbour add interest for families, and a play park sits just above the beach.
The tide shapes a visit here. At low water, the granite causeway to St Michael’s Mount is exposed; at high water, access to the island is by boat when that service is operating. Anyone planning to combine the beach and Mount should therefore check both the day’s tide table and the Mount’s current opening and access information rather than assuming the causeway will be usable on arrival. The open position can also be windy, which suits watersports but is worth remembering when packing for a family beach day.
Marazion works well as a wider Penzance outing because the beach, harbour and village can be combined without a long drive further west. Before setting off, check current lifeguard cover, seasonal dog restrictions and weather conditions, as these arrangements can change from year to year. Visitors who want scenery and facilities close together will find it a practical choice, while those chiefly interested in the causeway should time the visit around the tide and leave enough time to return safely.
