Sennen Cove Beach

Sennen Cove Beach lies just north of Land’s End on the broad sands of Whitesand Bay, within a straightforward day trip from Penzance. Its combination of open beach, Atlantic swell and a village close behind the shore makes it work for both family beach days and surfing. Shops, galleries, cafés and the Old Success pub provide useful stops nearby, so visitors can spend a full day here without treating the beach as an isolated stretch of coast.

Surf is central to Sennen, but conditions vary considerably with wind, swell and tide. On calmer days the water can suit swimming; when lifeguards are on duty, swimmers should stay between the red-and-yellow flags and surfers should follow the designated area, as the flags may move with the tide. Walkers can join the South West Coast Path north towards quieter Gwinver Beach, while the Pedn-men-du headland at the southern end gives wider coastal views above granite cliffs.

There are two car parks at the bottom of the hill and a larger field car park before the road descends into the cove. The Land’s End Coaster also links Sennen with Penzance, Land’s End, St Just and St Ives, making a car-free visit possible when the current timetable fits. Before travelling, check live RNLI patrol dates, weather and surf conditions, and Cornwall Council dog restrictions rather than relying on an old seasonal date; access rules and safety cover can change from year to year.
